6.3 Magnitude EQ – South of the Fiji Islands

At approximately 00:52:06 UTC on Tuesday, January 24th, an earthquake based on water struck at a fairly deep depth of 582.8 km (362 miles) South of the Fiji Islands, 543 km (337 miles) SE of Cevi-i-Ra, Fiji, and 551 km (342 miles) SSW of Ndoi Island, Fiji. Coords: 24.959°S, 178.611°E

Due to the size and whereabouts of such a quake, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.

United States Geological Survey – The event has been reviewed by a seismologist and confirmed, at present, to be a 6.3 magnitude earthquake at a depth of 582.8 km (362 miles). The European Mediterranean Seismology Agency has not yet had the earthquake’s parameters reviewed.
